Gartner: Android makes modest headway against iPad juggernaut

Despite a spate of new product releases from its Android rivals, Apple’s iPad will account for nearly 75% of 2011 tablet sales, Gartner predicts. The research firm said the sluggish sales of Android tablets led it to lower estimates of global sales this year by more than 5 million units, to 63.6 million, compared with 17.6 million in 2010. Some industry observers say Amazon’s new Kindle tablet, expected to ship by late November, could prove to be the biggest threat to the iPad.
