The new iPad gets warm, Consumer Reports says — very warm.

According to Consumer Reports, the new iPad 3 can reach up to 116 degrees during intensive use, according to tests conducted by the consumer magazine. The test confirms mounting consumer complaints that the new iPad runs much hotter than its predecessors.

Consumer Reports ran a graphics-intensive video game for 45 straight minutes, finding that the device got hottest on its back panel, in one corner, near the new computer processor. It was even hotter when plugged into an outlet, reaching 116 degrees.

Donna L. Tapellini of Consumer Reports writes, "During our tests, I held the new iPad in my hands. When it was at its hottest, it felt very warm but not especially uncomfortable if held for a brief period."
