Alan Horn named new Disney Studios head

The Walt Disney Co. named Hollywood veteran Alan Horn to be chairman of the Walt Disney Studios. He’ll take the reins of the Southern California entertainment giant’s struggling movie operation after the tenure of former chief Rich Ross.

Horn assumes the job on June 11, with responsibilities including oversight of production, distribution and marketing of live-action and animated films from Disney, Pixar Animation Studios and Marvel. Horn is a very seasoned and well-regarded executive, who as president and chief operating officer of Warner Bros. Entertainment managed such successful film franchises as Harry Potter and Batman.
