The iPhone 5 is going to rock the Apple world – what else is new?

  • GPRS, EDGE, EV-DO, HSPA. Now: HDPA+, DC-HSPDA, and LTE
  • LTE has a single chip for voice and data, single radio chip, and a “dynamic” antenna
  • Works on Sprint, AT&T, Verizon
  • 802.11 a/b/g/n, 802.11n 2.4GHz & 5GHz up to 150Mbps
  • New Chip: A6 – 2x faster than the A5. (2x faster in graphics)
  • Gamers will like the “ghosting” – but much more than that
  • battery life is now 8 hrs 3G talktime, 3G browsing. 8hrs LTE browsing, 10 hrs Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hrs video, 40 hours Music. 225 hrs of standby.
  • iSight camera specs: 8 megapixel sensor, 3264×2448 resolution w/backside illumination, hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, f2.4 aperture. 25 percent smaller.  Also, “sapphire crystal” and “precision lens” alignment.  28 megapixel images
  • Nice iSight feature: 28 megapixel panoramics; 1080p video, stabilization has improved, Face detection for 10 people, take photos while you’re shooting video.
  • FaceTime HD camera: 720p support, backside illuminated sensor, works over 3G with iOS 6
  • Connector: Thunderbolt (the connector) and Lightning, 8-signal design, plugged in in either direction. 80% smaller
  • iOs6: its on the iPhone 5
  • New maps:  3D maps navigation works in portrait and landscape
  • Passbook, the company’s virtual wallet app, is new for iOS 6 – the virtual wallet most people will use for the first time.
  • you can use Siri to update your Facebook status
  • iPhone 5 is available in white and black
  • No mention of NFC… feeling a little let down now…
  • Bottom-line: refinement over iPhone 4S with faster speeds and 4G LTE
  • $299 for 32GB and $399 for 64GB w/2-year contract
  • pre-order Sept. 14th
  • delivery Sept. 21
