NBC Sports Group has announced it has signed a four-year deal with Formula One for the exclusive U.S. media rights to the motorsports series. The agreement between NBC Sports Group and Formula One Management brings an end to the 17-year relationship Fox-owned cable channel Speed held as the U.S. rights holder to F1 racing. A spokesman for Fox Sports told AP on Friday that Speed was outbid during contract negotiations.
The deal, which begins with the 2013 season, provides for more than 100 hours of Formula One programming across NBC and cable channel NBC Sports Network. No word yet who will host the programming, but rest assured, NBC has big shoes to fill in the wake of the outstanding job Speed and Fox Sports performed for the series in the U.S.
