Apple iOS platform reaches 48% share of U.S. smartphone market

Market research firm Kantar Worldpanel ComTech says sales of the iPhone 5 helped Apple’s iOS platform reach a 48% share of the U.S. smartphone market — overtaking Google’s Android platform, which holds a 47% share for the three-month period ended Oct. 28. The iPhone 5 went on sale on Sept. 21.

Complaints around iOS’s new Apple maps has led to the firings of several key executives at Apple, according to popular media reports.
