Google Maps returns to iPhone and iPad #googlemaps

Google Maps is expected to make its long-awaited return to the iPhone and the iPad this week.

Google Inc. plans to release its Maps app for Apple’s iOS mobile operating system on Wednesday night, returning victorious after reviewers and users skewered the seriously-lacking Apple Maps that replaced Google Maps in mid-September with the release of iOS 6.

IPhone users in our office expressed frustration because Apple Maps didn’t provide nearly as much information as Google Maps. The Apple Maps "Flyover" 3-D imaging feature didn’t work correctly and commonly gave inaccurate information. This author found most searches gave inaccurate results.

Even some police departments recommended drivers not use the Apple Maps app. This week, Police in Australia issued a warning urging drivers not to use the app because it was mis-directing people trying to get to the city of Mildura in the middle of a national park.
