If I only had a penny each time… 13.4 billion downloads in the first quarter of 2013

The world’s four leading app stores (Apple’s App Store, Google Play, Windows Phone Store and BlackBerry World) generated $2.2 billion in total revenue from 13.4 billion downloads in the first quarter of 2013, according to analyst firm Canalys.

Combined growth rates slipped slightly from 11% the previous quarter, to a 9 percent increase in direct revenue from paid apps, in-app purchases and subscriptions.

Google Play held the largest share of downloads at 51 per cent of the total. When it comes to generating revenue, Apple’s App Store held a whopping 74 per cent share of revenue.
