In-N-Out menu secrets for Austin, Texas Newbies

As a transplant to Austin from Southern California, I’ve known the In-N-Out “secret” burger creations since those early college days.

Now that In-N-Out is opening it’s first area location not too far from our offices here in Round Rock, Texas in a few weeks, it occurs to me the locals have no idea what us insiders have known for years– those off the menu items that comforted me and my pals during an occasional double all-nighter back in college.

First, there’s the Animal Style burger, with a mustard-covered beef patty, pickles, grilled onions and a hefty dollop of the restaurant’s thousand island-style “spread.”

Even better is the Animal Style fries that include your order of fries topped with cheese, grilled onions and spread.

For those watching their waist, you can order your burger “Protein Style”, served on lettuce instead of a bun.

Now there’s something even the die-hard In-N-Out aficionados may have missed:  Monkey Style.  It’s the latest unofficial addition to their “not-so-secret menu.” Monkey Style is a burger that combines an order of Animal Style fries – your burger is topped with fries, cheese, grilled onions and spread.

O.K., newbies, you won’t find these items on the menu.  Just saunter up to the counter and order your Double-Double Monkey Style and your fries Animal Style. Don’t forget a large Coca-Cola to wash it all down.
