The Mississippi Department of Revenue has launched a new, convenient way for citizens and businesses to pay their taxes using a credit or debit card. The all-new mobile tax application equips department agents with mobile devices to take citizen’s tax payments in a secure and protected system.
When a revenue agent visits a taxpayer with a delinquent tax liability, the agent provides credentials identifying themselves as agents of the Department of Revenue. After the agent responds to required questions concerning the debt, the application allows the taxpayer to securely pay their tax, on the spot, through the State’s official payment solution. Corporate and finance tax, gaming tax, insurance premium tax, individual income tax and withholding tax are just a few of the many tax types available for payment.
“The Department of Revenue is always looking for new ways to make the tax paying process as convenient as possible for citizens,” said Ed Morgan, Commissioner of Revenue. “With the rapid increase in use of mobile technology, the Department saw an opportunity to use a mobile device for citizens to quickly pay their taxes. The mobile tax solution does just that by allowing agents to take tax payments anywhere in the state with a data connection in just a few minutes.”
The mobile tax payment application, currently in its pilot stage, is another avenue for the Department to bring government directly to the citizens of Mississippi. The Department of Revenue mobile tax application joins a number of self-funded services created for the State of Mississippi through its partnership with Mississippi Interactive, which began in 2010.
